When you have created the perfect picture, you will want to display it in an attractive manner. One of the easiest and oldest ways to display a picture is by setting it in a frame. Because your many photographs are displayed online now, you won't be able to send the wood frame your grandmother gave you for Christmas with the image. Luckily, it is extremely easy to create simple and elegant frames in Photoshop.

1
Open the picture in Photoshop. Double-click on the background to turn the picture into a normal layer.
2
Resize the image if necessary. It is usually easier to work with image sizes that are whole numbers. To resize the image, select "Image>Image Size..." Make sure that "Constrain Proportions" is selected. Enter the values for your width or height. If both numbers are not even, you may need to crop the image. Select the "Crop" tool. Enter the picture size in the constraining boxes. Draw a box around the image portion that you want to retain.
3
Resize the canvas. To place a frame around the image, you will need to resize the canvas. Select "Image>Canvas Size..." Select the center "Anchor" button. Enter the total dimensions for the picture with the frame. For example, for a frame that will be a half-inch around a 10-inch by 8-inch picture, enter 11 for the width and 9 for the height.
4
Create a new layer behind the image. Select the "Paint Bucket" tool and fill the layer with the frame's color. To create a frame with multiple layers, repeat Step 3 and this step for each layer of the frame. Alternatively, you can use the shape tool and the rulers to draw the frame around the image.
5
Add filters and styles to give the frame some dimension. Click on each frame layer and add layer styles or filters to create the desired effects. The example has three frame layers all with different effects to give the look of a layered frame. The bottom frame has a layer style with an inner bevel and a texture. The second layer also has an inner bevel, while the top layer has another bevel. Regardless of what effects you apply to the frame, you will want to make the picture look like it is inside the frame. To do this, add an inner shadow and an outer glow to the image.
