When you finally take that favorite photo, but notice that the image is dark, don't discard it just yet. It is easy to lighten a picture in Photoshop. Photoshop has several options for lightening an image, but the most used option is "curves." With curves, you can adjust the lightness to match your exact needs.

Open your photo in Photoshop.

Select "image," "adjustments" and "curves."

Check the "preview " option in the curves screen so that you can see what your progress is as you drag the bar up or down.

Adjust the bar up or down until you are satisfied with the resulting photo. If you drag the bar up, the photo lightens; if you drag the bar down, the photo darkens. Go back and readjust this option with the curves bar if you are not satisfied with the result.
