Once a pattern is defined, the tiling can be assigned to a larger area that is specified. Patterns can also be saved in a pattern library for later use in other projects. This tiling process is quick and efficient, making Photoshop the perfect tool to use to tile your image.

Creating the Tiling Image Pattern in Photoshop

Select "File" on the menu bar at the top and select "Open" from the drop-down menu.

Navigate to the photo you want to tile and click "OK."

Click "Select" on the menu bar at the top and select "All" from the drop-down menu.

Click "Edit" on the menu bar at the top and select "Define Pattern" from the drop-down menu.

Give your image a name in the space provided and click "OK."

Creating the File Where the Tiled Pattern Will Be Used

Select "File" on the menu bar at the top and select "New" from the drop-down menu.

Assign dimensions for the width and height of your new image file and click "OK."

Copy the background layer in the layers palette by clicking on it and dragging it to the new layer icon at the bottom.

Tiling the Image

Right-click the layer entitled "Background copy" so it is highlighted in blue.

Select "Blending Options" to access the "Layer Style" pop-up window.

Select "Pattern Overlay" from the "Styles" box on the left so it is highlighted in blue.

Place a check mark in the box next to the word "Preview," which appears in the right column, so you can see your next actions.

Go to the center area of the pop-up window to the "Pattern" box. Click on the down arrow next to the pattern square.

Navigate to the last pattern added, which should be the pattern created in Step 6, and select it so it's outlined.

Click outside the box of pop-up patterns to close it and reveal the window beneath it.

Slide the "Opacity" bar to change the pattern until you have achieved your desired results.

Slide the "Scale" bar to change the size of the pattern until it fits the area you want to cover.

Click "OK" to save your pattern settings.
