Photoshop files are often large documents with several layers of graphics and text. They can be difficult to email or save to a disk because of their size. One way to greatly reduce the size of a Photoshop file, yet still retain the look of the document, is to compress it to a PDF, which stands for Portable Document Format. PDF files are ideal for sharing on the Internet because they can often be password protected. You can convert your Photoshop document to a PDF, and while you're at it, also assign specific settings for compression, output and security.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
1
Select "File" from the Photoshop menu bar. Then scroll down to "Open" to find the Photoshop file you wish to convert. When you see the name of the file in the "Open" dialogue box, highlight it and click the "Open" button to proceed.
2
Choose "File," and then scroll down to "Save As." When the "Save As" window opens, choose a name for your document, select "Photoshop PDF" from the pull down format menu, and then click "Save."
3
Select PDF options from the "Save Adobe PDF" window that opens. Note the pane on the left side for options. Select a Color option if you wish to embed a color profile. Include layers, annotations, spot color or alpha channels, if desired. Then click "Save."
4
Choose an Adobe PDF preset if the PDF will be printed on a personal printer, sent to a commercial printer, sent via email, or shared on the Internet. Click "Save PDF" to convert the Photshop file to PDF.
